Hello friend!
My name is Joe Pettit. By day, I am a software engineer at PagerDuty working on developer experience. Personally I am a cat dad, aviation enthusiast, photographer and a frequent teller of dad jokes.
I absolutely love building things that people love and enjoy. I'm a firm believer that projects exist in service of the people who create and use them, not the other way around. To that end, I believe in iterating on projects quickly while not letting perfect become the enemy. A technically perfect solution that is never released may as well not exist at all.
A history of living with anxiety has resulted in me becoming very strategic about how I do things. I thrive when I am at an organization that allows me to participate in strategic discussions, involved in product research and design as well as the engineering process. Ownership and autonomy is very important to me and I am happiest when I am able to take a project from inception to completion.
I am focused on advocating for my colleagues, team, and friends. I believe that everybody should be safe and comfortable and to that end I am not afraid to push for change when things are not right.
I believe in considering all ideas and I am a bit of an free thinker, ready to come up with novel ideas and solutions to problems, even if some of them are a bit out there. A good idea is only often just a single bad idea away.
I am incredibly loyal to my colleagues and friends.
I am often observed telling jokes and generally making people laugh - if work is worth doing it is worth enjoying.
I am often quite frank and tend to be a bit direct in my communication.
I am shy at first, but once I get comfortable around you, I won't stop yapping and enjoy hearing the stories, the perspectives and the experiences of others.
Thank you for dropping by. If I sound like somebody you would like to work with, feel free to reach out. I am always interested in hearing about cool projects - whether they be employment-type projects or just cool community things.
Joe
